Cardigan Welsh Corgi

About the Cardigans

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a long, low fox-like dog with large upright ears, a brushy tail, moderate bone, and front legs slightly bowed around a deep chest. They are a small, sturdy but powerful dog capable of endurance and speed. A big dog in a small package, their temperament is based upon their original life as a companion, farm helper and guardian, which makes for a wonderful pet today.

As a recognized AKC breed, the Cardigan can compete in AKC dog shows, but does not have to be limited to conformation. In keeping with their Welsh farm heritage and intelligence, Cardigans do well in obedience, tracking, agility and, of course, herding trials.

My experience with the Cardis

I have found the Cardigan Welsh Corgis to be wonderful dogs. They are intelligent, loving, and loyal. Even with their short legs and long bodies, they are about as agile as any dog. And can they run! They are comical dogs, always keeping me on my toes. I never know what to expect with them. Because of their intelligence, they are not a breed for everyone. Like the SV's, they love being with their owners and need mental stimulation. They can sometimes tend to be more reserved around strangers, but not necessarily shy. Meet our Cardigans below.

Phoebe

Legacy's Phantom Phoebe (CH Legacy's King Of Hearts x Tylwythteg's Fannsi Pants) is my first Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the reason I fell in love with the breed. Who can resist those blue merles! She is a sweet girl and a loyal companion. She is pointed, but really did not like the show ring.

Shea

We aquired Minikota's Shea Be Mystic (CH Aurigan Thunder Rolls x Aurigan Bubble's Lil Angel), a brindle Cardigan Welsh Corgi, as an older puppy. Shea is a sweetheart and very quick and agile with a strong herding instinct.

Goals and future plans

My goal in breeding the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is to breed as close to the breed standard as possible, preserving structure and type, along with temperament and health. Dogs used for breeding will have eyes and hips screened. Only dogs with sound health and temperament will be bred.

I do not have plans for a litter in the near future. If interested in a Cardigan, feel free to contact me and I can help you find a responsible breeder.
